11 leads in the engine repair shop are required to communicate with next shift lead the status of current work done by their crew. Some leads do, some do not. There is no uniformity in the reports that are being done. The director wants a uniform report and a way to see current work status and to know who isn’t doing turnovers.

When Boeing 727 and Douglas DC9 engines are tested the calculations are done by hand after the engine has been run and operators reading gauges and instruments collected data. Reports are messy and often unreadable. Mistakes are frequently made because so many formulas are involved. The status of the engines serviceability isn’t known until after the run and hundreds of gallons of fuel are burned. There are 9 different engine types of which each may be configured in one of 9 different ways. Each type and configuration results in different limits for 80 different parameters on the engine. FAA regulations must be followed in any system devised for testing aircraft engines.
